This webinar will examine how neuro-oncology imaging is interpreted and applied in clinical negligence claims, with particular focus on what radiological evidence can and cannot reliably demonstrate about tumour detection, diagnostic delay, disease progression, and monitoring over time.
INNEG invites you to this free lunchtime webinar with Professor Sotirios Bisdas, Consultant Neuroradiologist with over a decade of medico-legal reporting experience since 2014. He will provide clear, practical insight into the role of imaging evidence in claims involving alleged failure to diagnose, delayed referral, misinterpretation of scans, and disputed tumour chronology in primary and secondary brain tumours.
Claims involving brain tumours raise complex and highly contested questions around disease progression, timing, causation, and prognosis. Neuro-oncological imaging often sits at the centre of these disputes - yet imaging evidence is frequently misunderstood, over-interpreted, or relied upon beyond its true evidential limits within litigation.
Drawing on real-world medico-legal experience and anonymised case examples, Professor Bisdas will examine how imaging is used to assess disease chronology, treatment response, and prognosis, and where common areas of dispute arise when scans are scrutinised in the legal arena. Particular attention will be given to limitations of imaging, sources of radiological uncertainty, and how misunderstandings can undermine causation arguments.

Professor Sotirios Bisdas
Consultant Neuroradiologist & Medico-Legal Expert Witness
Professor Sotirios Bisdas is a Consultant Neuroradiologist and highly experienced Medico-Legal Expert Witness specialising in adult and paediatric neuro-oncology, brain and spine injury, and advanced neuroimaging. He is currently Lead Consultant Neuroradiologist and MRI Lead at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (UCL Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust), Honorary Consultant Neuroradiologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital, and Associate Professor of Neuroradiology at the UCL Institute of Neurology. He also holds a personal Chair as Professor of Radiology at the University of Tübingen, Germany Professor Bisdas has been providing medico-legal opinions since 2014 and has reported in over 80 cases involving brain and spine tumours, traumatic and hypoxic brain injury, stroke, birth injury, and complex neuro-oncological conditions. His instructions span both claimant and defendant work, and include reports on imaging interpretation, breach of duty, and causation Clinically and academically, his expertise centres on advanced MRI, PET/MRI, and molecular imaging in brain tumours, with a particular focus on disease monitoring, treatment response, and tumour progression. He has authored over 140 peer-reviewed publications and is a recognised authority in neuro-oncological imaging at an international level Professor Bisdas examines both adult and paediatric cases and is frequently instructed where imaging evidence plays a pivotal role in disputed causation and prognosis.
