How one solicitor saved £4,300 on oncology expert evidence - without compromising quality.

A claimant solicitor was handling a complex cancer case involving alleged delays in diagnosis and treatment. Early expert input was needed to assess the clinical pathway and inform next steps, but there were concerns about expert costs escalating too early in the claim.

The Challenge

The solicitor had received an initial expert quote of £8,500 for oncology input. With further records still outstanding and uncertainty around how the case would develop, there was a real risk that a significant proportion of those costs could become unrecoverable.

Balancing evidential strength with cost control was critical.

INNEG’s Intervention

INNEG took a commercial-first approach to expert sourcing:

  • Reviewed the proposed fee against comparable oncology experts on our panel

  • Identified an alternative Consultant Oncologist with equivalent seniority and extensive medico-legal experience

  • Negotiated a more proportionate fee aligned to the scope of work required at that stage

  • Provided the solicitor with clear options, enabling an informed, cost-conscious decision

All sourcing, vetting, and fee discussions were managed by INNEG, removing additional administrative burden from the legal team.

Outcome for the Solicitor

  • Total saving: £4,300 on expert fees

  • No compromise on expert quality, experience, or clarity of opinion

  • Reduced exposure to unrecoverable costs as the claim progressed

  • Expert evidence secured efficiently, without delay

By actively managing expert costs at an early stage, INNEG helped the solicitor retain commercial control while still accessing robust, court-ready oncology evidence.

Why This Matters

In cancer litigation, expert fees can quickly escalate - particularly where records are incomplete or the claim is still evolving. INNEG helps solicitors avoid unnecessary cost exposure by combining wide expert access with proactive fee scrutiny and negotiation.

Expert evidence with commercial awareness built in.
